My youth group and I went to pass out gospel flyers on Easter Sunday. What followed was one of my most amazing spiritual encounters yet.
It was a sunny day, with gorgeous blue skies and stunning white clouds. I was nearing the end of my stack of flyers, and my group was pretty pleased with our performance. As I wandered around our area, I saw the top of an umbrella approaching, so I knew somebody was coming by. I prepared myself to approach him/her, and as the person, who turned out to be an older lady, walked by, I smiled and waved, "Happy Easter! Here's a flyer for you to look at! Jesus loves you!" The lady looked at me, took the flyer, and said, "Actually, I'd like to talk to some Christians. Do you mind if we go over there to talk?"
At that point, I was a little bit worried because I cannot answer too many difficult questions about my faith, and I was scared she would interrogate me and question my faith. Therefore, I brought her to my minister, who was nearby passing out flyers as well.
I left their conversation there and went on my way approaching other people.
It wasn't until after our flyer passing activity that I truly fell in awe of God's providence.
As our youth group was sharing after the activity, my minister talked about that lady. It turns out that the lady had been experiencing a loss in her life, and the loved one she lost was a devout Christian. This lady, on the other hand, is a devout idol worshipper, but she regrets not sorting things out with her deceased family member and wonders if heaven is real. To her, if heaven did exist, she would have a chance to reconcile with somebody she loved a lot. The lady was walking back from a restaurant before I ran into her, and while she was walking, she just cried out to God, saying, "God, if you are real, reveal yourself to me."
She turned the corner, and there I was, telling her that Jesus loved her.
At that moment, I could not believe God had used me in this way to show Himself to a nonbeliever. I was stunned. I still am absolutely in awe of how powerful my God is and how real He is.
This little event could have happened in so many different ways. The lady could have taken a different road. I could have wandered somewhere else. A million things could have kept her from meeting me.
Yet God made things work out the way they did.
And for that, I am truly, madly, deeply amazed by the greatness of my Heavenly Father.
